[Market Trends] How AI and Automation Fuel Walmart’s Ultrafast Deliveries | The Wall Street Journal

📌 Revolutionizing Retail: Walmart’s Push for Faster Delivery Through Automation

Walmart's Alphabot system is revolutionizing the company's delivery process by automating item picking at its market fulfillment centers (MFCs), which are attached to supercenters but have a smaller footprint. These centers efficiently separate store inventory for online orders, enhancing order fulfillment speed and accuracy. Over 95% of orders are processed in less than 12 minutes. Walmart is expanding these innovations by investing in automated facilities and drone delivery, aiming to service 65% of its stores with automation by 2025. This strategy reduces in-store congestion and positions Walmart competitively against Amazon and Target, particularly in fast delivery, by leveraging its vast network of stores across the U.S.
